A man from Plaquemine dies in the accident in the parish of Ascension | Pelican Post

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on December 26, 2021, soldiers from Louisiana State Police A-Troop began investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on the LA 1 freeway north of the LA 18 freeway in the parish of Ascension. The accident claimed the life of John Gray, 43, of Plaquemine.

Initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Gray was heading south on LA Hwy 1 in a 2021 Western Star semi-trailer. For reasons still under investigation, the Western Star left the roadway on the right and struck a tree bordering the roadway.

Gray was not strapped in at the time of the accident and was thrown from the vehicle. He was declared deceased on the spot. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicological sample was obtained from Gray for analysis.

Louisiana State Police today investigated two fatal crashes that left three people dead. The three drivers involved in these fatal crashes were not strapped in and all three sustained fatal injuries. The difficult attribution of death notification continues to be one of the most difficult parts of the law enforcement profession. Notification is even more difficult when the Troopers know the outcome was preventable, especially on Boxing Day. As the New Years and New Years holidays approach, please take a moment to put your safety and the safety of your loved ones above all else. In addition to making informed decisions while driving, talk to your family and friends about the consequences of impaired driving. Remind them that wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of being killed or seriously injured in an accident. Talk to them about the dangers of distracted driving. The conversation you have today could make the difference tomorrow.
