The Seattle Seahawks are nothing like the team that has always been a contender for a playoff spot in the NFC.
They lost their third straight game Monday night, 17-15 to the Washington soccer team, but had nothing to do until the last minute.
Russell Wilson looked in the pocket and was unable to pick his best target, DK Metcalf, for much of the night.
Seattle didn’t have any rushed attacks to support the quarterback. The Seahawks ran 34 yards for their fifth straight game with less than 100 rushing yards.
The defense deserves credit for not breaking up and giving the offense a chance to level the game at the end, but with the way Wilson played it felt like the NFC West had lost two points for most of the game.
The worst part about Seattle being a 3-8 team is that they can’t play for a high pick in the first round. His first-round selection belongs to the New York Jets as part of the Jamal Adams trade.
Wilson & Co. have little to play and things could get worse before they get better as the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams are on deck in two of the next three games.

DK Metcalf has recorded eight catches for 70 yards since the Seahawks came out of their Week 9 break.
And the 23-year-old recorded season lows in targets, receptions and receiving yards on Monday. He wasn’t targeted until the second half and had a 13-yard catch.
Some criticism can be leveled at Metcalf because of his running. He is an outside threat and defenders can give him a cornerback and safety to take him out of the throwing lanes.
Metcalf started the season with one touchdown in six of eight games and five performances with at least 60 receiving yards.
Wilson has done a poor job targeting his No.1 wide receiver, and that’s one of the many factors that have killed Seattle’s offense over the past three weeks.
If the Seahawks find a solution to their passing game woes, they could cause an upheaval against the 49ers, but any hope of an end to the playoffs was dashed on Monday.
Seattle is 15th in the NFC standings with only the Detroit Lions below. He has an NFC West 1-2 record and a 1-6 mark inside the NFC. Division and conference records are two of the best tiebreakers, and no other team in the NFC playoff race has records as bad as the Seahawks.

The Seahawks don’t have anything that looks like a rushed attack right now. They’ve averaged 70.8 rushing yards per game over the past five games and produced a record 34 rushing yards on Monday.
None of Alex Collins, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer took control of the No.1 lunge left open by Chris Carson’s neck injury.
The running back’s performance was made worse by Collins’ second quarter fumble on a short pass from Wilson. It happened two games after Jamal Adams intercepted Taylor Heinicke, who picked up the momentum in favor of the home side.
Dallas caught all five of his targets, but only managed four yards on three carries when called up in the rushing game.
After Week 12, Collins is the team’s best running back with 395 yards, and no other healthy running back has more than 100 yards. Carson, who hasn’t played since Week 4, is still the roster’s second-best rusher.

Seattle’s defense didn’t break while the offense failed to shake things up.
The Seahawks made back-to-back third-party saves against Antonio Gibson in the third quarter to return the ball to Wilson and Co.
Both stops came in third down short range situations. Seattle also came out of a run to start the fourth quarter after a pending appeal on Brandon Scheff.
Even after Gibson beat the Seattle defense on a long drive in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks got a fourth save when Logan Thomas was stopped at the goal line as an incomplete pass. Washington did it in this situation because kicker Joey Slye was injured earlier in the competition.
The Seattle defense found a way to keep the team in possession of just one possession and they were almost rewarded for their performance with Wilson’s equalizer potential. The Seahawks missed the conversion by two points.
The Seattle defense performance was the biggest advantage the team could pick up from Monday night.
If the offense recovers, the Seahawks could win a few games to end the season as the defense has held two of its last three opponents under 20 points.
