Eden Marine High Students Explore Journalism Through Creation of First Online Newspaper | Magnet

Grade 10 students at Eden Marine High School have launched their first online “Students Voice” journal.

This was a project-based learning task where all grade 10 students became “experts” in a particular section of the journal and developed their investigative skills.

The project culminated in a Morning Journalism Awards Ceremony which celebrated the achievements of students in all areas of online journalism.

Jack Jorgensen was one of the five student writers leading the project and said 10s started the new unit in week five of the fourth quarter, completing their research, articles and website development on a period of six weeks.

“It was actually really fun doing all the formatting and being a graphic designer,” he said.

“It was really stressful the last two days, we worked over 13 hours over the weekend to finish it.”

Editor-in-chief Niamh Occleshaw said it was a challenge to put everything together in a way that looked good aesthetic, but that it was really rewarding to see it all come together.
